A Public School Dedicated to Academic and Artistic Excellence

PVPA is a regional public charter school serving 400 students grades 7-12, from over 60 towns throughout Western Massachusetts. We seek to connect the creative process with critical thinking to inspire a love of learning. As a charter school, the work we do informs educational policy at local, state and national levels.

Students are not required to follow a specific course of study recognizing that offerings and schedule make it difficult to progress along a specific sequence of classes. Based on individual student's interest, particularly for those interested in pursuing Visual Arts or Theater Design and Production beyond PVPA, we recommend the following courses of study. Costuming  Elements of Design  Figure Drawing  Costume Design  Costume Production Advanced Costume Production   *Other costume Craft Courses: Textile Arts, Mask-Making, Puppetry Lighting Elements of Design Introductory Drawing Drafting Lighting Design Lighting Production Scenic Design and Painting Elements of Design Introductory Drawing Introductory Painting Drafting Scene Design Scene Painting Scenic Construction/Technical Direction Drafting Beginning Stagecraft Advanced Stagecraft Fine Arts While this is not one of the foci incorporated into the requirements for graduation, some students want to pursue Fine Arts in the secondary education. In addition to the recommended 3 classes in applied work with the performing arts, it is recommended that students wanting to build appropriate skills and develop a portfolio for admission into a fine art college try to take the following courses: Elements of Design  Introductory Drawing  Intermediate Drawing  Figure Drawing  Introductory Painting  Sculpture Arts  Advanced Studio Art
